Monitoring of exotic snail populations in Lake Memphremagog

The report is now available!

Lake Memphremagog is host to certain exotic invasive species, notably the Chinese mystery snail (Cipangopaludina chinensis), detected in 2012, and the striped mystery snail (Viviparus georgianus), first noted in 2019. Between 2022 and 2024, MCI’s team has monitored these populations in order to assess their quanities and extent on the Canadian side of the lake. In 2024, a targeted control was carried out in Greene bay in Austin to try to limit the spread of the Chinese mystery snail, the only population of this species observed by MCI’s team.
